Dr. Serge Planes has been involved in the study of population genetics of marine fish since the beginning of his career that started with his PhD in 1989. Over the past 20 years, he has published more than 200 papers in international journals mainly dealing with the population genetics of coral reef fishes as well as papers dealing with ecology, ecology of marine protected areas and recruitment of marine fishes.
Presently Dr. Serge Planes is the director of the CRIOBE (Centre de Recherches Insulaires et Observatoire de l’Environnement) and the Laboratory of Excellence LABEX “CORAIL”, awarded in 2011 as France’s major structural framework for research on coral reef ecology, uniting 9 institutions and 4 universities.
