IYOR Activities Plan
The Biodiversity Programme, implemented by the Indian Ocean Commission and funded by the European Union, aims to strengthen national and regional capacities – at all levels – in managing coastal, marine and island-specific biodiversity resources and ecosystems to ensure their conservation and to promote the sustainable use of these resources for the benefit of the population.
The Biodiversity Programme will participate in the celebration of the of the International Year of the Reef through the following activities:
- Celebration of European Union Day in Antananarivo (Madagascar) from 9th to 12th May. Our communications will focus on IYOR 2018 as well as the projects that have received grants from the Biodiversity Programme.
- The publication of a post-bleaching assessment report for the Western Indian Ocean, in collaboration with Coastal Oceans Research and Development – Indian Ocean (CORDIO) and the National Coral Reef Network.
- An Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) forum is also planned for September 2018, during which the most relevant results of the project will be highlighted. Talks related to regional reef conservation and IYOR are proposed and related communication tools will be displayed. Results of national IYOR2018 awareness campaigns from the individual national coral reef networks will also be shared.
