Led by the Presidents of Palau, Seychelles and Marshall Islands with the Prime Minister of Grenada and Premier of the British Virgin Islands, GLISPA’s mission is to promote action to build resilient and sustainable island communities by inspiring leadership, catalyzing commitments and facilitating collaboration for all islands.

Since its launch in 2006, the Partnership has engaged high-level leaders to catalyze US$150 million for island action and assisted 35+ countries to launch or strengthen major sustainable island commitments. The Partnership now has more than 32 Members, 37 Friends and 2 Supporters as part of its movement to build resilient and sustainable island communities.

IYOR Activities Plan

OCEAN TALKS in Cozumel, (Mexico), March 5th, 2018

The objective of OCEAN TALKS is knowledge transfer from the international ocean community, aiming for a local implementation of the best practices to achieve SDG14, to showcase the landscape of collaboration among civic society, academy, private and public sector” – Roberto Cerda, Organiser of OCEAN TALKS

GLISPA will hold a panel discussion on the need for the private & public sector to collaborate for the improvement of coral reef health and resilience.

Other Events:

  • Smart Island World Congress in Calvià, Mallorca (April 23&24) – GLISPA will be holding workshops and panel discussions + our Executive Director, Kate Brown is invited as a speaker for the “Disaster-relief and resilience in islands“ session – involvement with IYOR2018 TBC
  • SBSTTA, CBD in Montréal, Canada (July 2-7) – GLISPA will be working with its Members, namely island Parties and Parties with islands (on biodiversity & resilience priorities) – involvement with IYOR2018 TBC
  • High Level Event at CBD COP 14 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt (November 7-22) – GLISPA will demonstrate leadership of islands in implementation of CBD Strategic Plan, Aichi Biodiversity Targets as part of SDGs (to inspire new leadership, catalyse commitments and facilitate collaboration as well as maintain momentum to 2020 goals) – involvement with IYOR2018 TBC
