Amigos de Sian Ka’an (ASK)
Amigos de Sian Ka’an (ASK) held a photo contest to celebrate the IYOR under the title “Monitors of the Reef” between May and July 2018. The aim of the contest was to encourage participants to focus on promoting the natural beauty of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef. In total there were 198 photos submitted.
Following the success of the photo contest ASK decided to hold an itinerant photographic exhibition under the same title, from November (2018) to February (2019). This exhibition helped to raise awareness within the general public about the importance of marine ecosystems and the threats facing them because of human activities.
