The Underwater worlds’ photography and film festival of Trébeurden is an annual event in France that attracts a diverse audience around underwater images in Brittany. This is the third edition of the festival and this year, the organizing NGO, Embarque à Treb, wants to put corals at the forefront of the scene. The IYOR 2018 is a good opportunity to engage as many people as possible in coral reef conservation, a crucial challenge for the decades to come. The short film competition will feature works including “New Caledonia, Mother of the Coral Sea”, by Conservation International and “Kings’ Archipelago” by Tara Expeditions.

There will also be a number of coral reef related activities including:

Saturday 27th of October at 20:30pm

  • Conference “Coral reefs, major challenges” by Aline Tribollet from the French Institute of Research for Development (IRD). This conference will be accompanied by 3 short films by the IRD.

Sunday 28th of October 10:30am

  • Conference “Diversity and bio-erosion agents: focus on coral reefs” by Aline Tribollet.

Sunday 28th of October 15:30pm

  • Short films linked to the IYOR 2018, accompanied by a conference “The challenges of coral reef evolution” by Michel Hignette, followed by a debate session with the audience.

Throughout the festival IRD’s photographic exhibition “Journey to the heart of coral reefs” will be displayed in the halls. This exhibition has already been featured in the IYOR 2018.
