
Guam Year of the Reef will be hosting several events next week to celebrate World Environment Day, World Oceans Day and International Year of the Reef!
Tuesday 5th June
Hosting a “Safe and Sustainable Marine Tourism for Hotels” training at the Outrigger Guam Resort. This free, two-hour training is customised specifically for hotels and visitor industry professionals to teach participants how to identify opportunities for increased sustainability and safe tourism on Guam’s coral reefs.
Wednesday 6th June
Hosting two “Eyes on the Reef Marianas” training sessions, again at the Outrigger Guam Resort. This training will educate hotel staff, the public, and visitors how to identify impacts on coral reefs such as bleaching and disease, and report them online. This training aims to engage the public and businesses to be a part of the solution and play an important role in keeping Guam’s reefs healthy for future generations.
Friday 8th June
This will be the first of several World Oceans Day celebrations in Guam. There will be a beach clean-up from 8-10am, an introduction to snorkeling from 10-11:30am, and a mini fair with several booths and activities from 10am – 1pm.
The Micronesia Conservation Coalition is hosting a World Oceans Day event at Micronesia Mall with a mini fair and information all about coral reefs.
Guam Year of the Reef 2018 will also have a booth in the lobby at Outrigger Beach Resort from 4th – 8th June and then 9th June at the Micro Mall. We will be giving away prizes and outreach materials to participants!
